Greenwood

A house with a view in the North Devon countryside

The ‘Greenwood’ house blends clean contemporary design with a slated and rendered rural vernacular.

Sited in the rolling hills of North Devon, glazed façades open directly into the landscape offering panoramic views.  First floor balconies address the morning and southern sun whilst internally the entrance hallway opens into a vaulted living room.  Daylight floods into the living spaces.

Life style choices and energy efficiency concerns have generated a design solution where energy efficiency and environmental priorities are at the heart of the home.  The house requires no heating other than a wood burning stove.  Wood fuel is harvested from site, solar electricity and solar hot water is generated and there is no connection to mains drainage.  Well water is to be the only water supply.  The house is naturally ventilated.

A bespoke oak spiral stair case and hand crafted kitchen sit comfortably against a backdrop of timber columns and roof beams.
